Ordinary Scenery Transforms into a Place for the Exploration of Knowledge and a Special View
From Friday, April 10 through Monday, June 8, 2026, we will be holding a tie-in event with the popular manga “Chi. -On the Movement of the Earth-,” which has surpassed 5.5 million copies in cumulative circulation (including digital editions).
This event will transform the everyday landscape into a place of intellectual exploration by superimposing the worldview of Chi. -On the Movement of the Earth-, a story woven by anonymous people in the Middle Ages who risked their lives to prove the heliocentric theory, onto an observation deck close to the sky at an elevation of 250m.
When you experience the awe of the beauty of the universe that medieval astronomers felt, the starry sky and city lights outside the window will surely transform into a special view that can only exist through the convergence of countless coincidences and passions.
Astronomy, space, stars, and knowledge that has been continuously passed down through the ages. Based on these keywords that symbolize the work, the world of Chi. will be dynamically revealed in the vast space of the observation deck connected to the sky, featuring iconic scenes and memorable lines from the film. Also, don’t miss the spatial exhibit that offers a glimpse into the world of medieval astronomers.
Your view of the world will change. We deliver such a surprising experience along with the breathtaking views of Tokyo.
Chi. -On the Movement of the Earth-
This manga by Uoto, serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits (Shogakukan) from 2020 to 2022, is set in 15th-century Europe. In an era where the geocentric model was considered the absolute truth, it depicts the drama of people who were captivated by the possibility of the heliocentric model, which was considered heretical, and who risked their lives to prove it. Their determination to prioritize knowledge and truth over their own lives, and their refusal to succumb to torture and the fear of death to pass the baton, has touched the hearts of many readers. With cumulative sales exceeding 5.5 million copies (including digital editions), and having won the 26th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Manga Grand Prize in 2022 at the youngest age ever, and following its television anime adaptation in 2024, it continues to garner enthusiastic support.
Uoto’s Profile: Born in 1997 in Tokyo. Started submitting his work at the age of 13, and made his serialization debut in November 2018 with Hyakuem. In September 2020, he began serializing Chi. - On the Movement of the Earth -. This work was selected as a top performer in numerous manga awards, including 2nd place in the Manga Taisho 2021 and 2nd place in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 Otoko-hen, and in April 2022, he became the youngest recipient in history of the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Manga Grand Prize. Unraveling the Passion for Knowledge!
A Deep Dive into ‘Chi.’: Tracing Beliefs and Truth, and Passing the Baton to You in the Modern Age
This event’s exhibition area goes beyond simply showcasing memorable scenes, deeply focusing on the themes of belief and truth that underlie the story. For this project, we enlisted the help of four co-creators, including the up-and-coming philosopher Yoshihiro Tanikawa. Their contemporary and diverse perspectives, combined with their commentary, accompany each exhibit, delving into new facets of the charm of Chi. and elevating it to an intellectually stimulating experience.
Finally, at the end of the exhibition, the baton, passed down through centuries, is handed to you, living in the present. Just as the characters looked up at the night sky with pure conviction, you are asked, “What does belief mean to you?” in the face of the real-world scenery unfolding from the observation deck 250 meters above sea level. By the time you leave the observation deck, your perspective on the world may have shifted slightly. This is a special experience unique to this event.

Comment from Takayuki Ohira
The night sky was once the key to unraveling the mysteries of this world. In the Middle Ages, people risked their lives in conflict over the truth of astronomy. Eventually, the starry sky became a symbol of romance, and astronomy ceased to be a matter of urgency for people. However, in the near future, understanding the universe will once again guide humanity. We hope this event will be a place to reflect on that history and consider our future.

After joining Sony Corporation, he continued his work, and in 1998, he unveiled MEGASTAR, which projects 1.5 million stars. In 2004, MEGASTAR-II cosmos, installed at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan), was certified by Guinness World Records. He actively installs MEGASTARs both domestically and internationally, produces events, and collaborates with music and art. He co-developed the world’s first home optical planetarium series, HOMESTAR, with Sega Toys. He has received numerous awards, including the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Science and Technology and the IPS Technology & Innovation Award 2018.
