From November 13, 2026 through February 14, 2027, Tokyo City View will host a special event titled Le Petit Prince: A journey through the skies to discover what truly matters, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the book’s publication in France.

Le Petit Prince is the signature work of French aviator and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and ranks among the world’s top three best-selling books. The author’s message regarding “what is truly essential” (l’essentiel) transcends boundaries of region, language, culture, gender, age, and time, continuing to inspire insight and empathy in readers today. This event offers a unique, immersive experience that blends the panoramic views of Tokyo’s sky and cityscape with the magnificent cosmic journey of Le Petit Prince. Visitors step into the world of the story through initial drawings that inspired the work, editions published around the globe, photo spots, and more.

This is the final and most celebrated work of the world-renowned French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The story chronicles the ten days an aviator—forced to make an emergency landing in the Sahara Desert due to engine trouble—spends with a mysterious boy: the Little Prince from another star. It details the bond they form and their eventual parting, as well as the tales of the Little Prince’s travels that the aviator learns during their time together. 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of its first publication in Saint-Exupéry’s native France in 1946.

Born in Lyon, France, in 1900, he was not only a writer but also a pioneer in establishing air routes across Northwest Africa, the South Atlantic, and South America, as well as a trailblazer in night flying. Works such as Courrier sud (1929)—written based on his own experiences—were highly acclaimed as a new form of literature that explored human existence and the meaning of life when facing extreme circumstances. After France’s defeat, he went into exile in the United States; Le Petit Prince, published there in 1943 prior to its release in Saint-Exupéry’s native France, continues to be loved by people everywhere.
